Mr Porter, one of our favourite online shopping destinations, obviously has one of the richest offerings of gift ideas for Christmas. It was quite difficult to choose our favourites but below you'll see our suggestions for some classically stylish and luxury stocking fillers fit for any gentleman, young or old. There's Winter essentials in the form of hats and gloves and a lot of warming Autumnal colours.

As well as gifts and stocking fillers there's a vast collection of formal and party pieces - we particularly like this super sharp Alexander McQueen Tuxedo Jacket [left] priced at £1,165. There is plenty to choose from online in all categories but we certainly recommend a stylishly gift-wrapped stocking filler from Mr Porter - even something as small as a J Crew hipflask could steal the show on Christmas morning.

Ted Baker knows exactly how to treat us for Christmas with their vast range of stylish and quirky gift ideas as well as some great knits and partywear pieces. You can check out our top picks of gift ideas and stocking fillers below with everything from Winter essentials to techy accessories - we particularly like the digital bookcase with its tweed and leather detailing. There's some fantastic footwear on offer too.

We're seeing a lot of kitsch animal print this season - particularly on socks -and they're no longer reserved for a last minute present for the elderly relatives - it's a free for all now - though we can't quite decide between the pigs, ducks or stags that you'll find in the Ted Baker gift set. For something a little more serious and practical we also suggest the fold-over document holder - great for a stylish return to the office in the new year.

We're starting our Christmas Gift Guides for 2012 with River Island who, apart from the kitsch knitwear, have a great selection of partywear, presents and stocking fillers for the big day. Apparently kitsch is in though so go red-nose mad - we particularly love the Rudolph sweater. In terms of formalwear there's a wide range of Lux pieces including contrast-lapel blazers and velvet jackets, patent shoes, bow-ties and much more for you to go all out on.

Beyond this there are a few stocking fillers we can recommend - from the nice to the nifty - so there's generally something for all ages and that's a good starting point. Also you can't go without some new loungewear for the Xmas mornings and again River Island has you sorted there.

For the ultimate Winter essential, Nicholas Deakins has you covered [quite literally] with their three-in-one Para Squad jacket. This practical piece of outerwear functions well for most of the random days we'll see for the cold season. You can wear the shell, inner or both dependent on the weather - and we all know how unpredictable that can be these days.

There's fantastic detailing in this Nicholas Deakins jacket including a corduroy collar with double-button fastener [pictured above] and you can see more below. This military-inspired piece is the latest addition to a strong line of functional outerwear from a collection that is very heritage-inspired and something we would definitely consider to be a must-have this season.

We recently came across this very young [est. 2010] accessory brand Shackleton who have introduced a flawless range of bags with punchy colours and even better detailing. These modern classics caught our eye for their minimal but bold styles as well as the fact that they're designed and manufactured in London, England.

Shackleton have a strong ethos for quality construction and fabrics and the detailing is absolutely incredible [see below]. With a current collection of rucksacks, totes and weekenders in a range of colourways, their functional and unisex style are bang on trend at the moment and with Xmas on the way they're also a fantastic gift idea. Beyond this, Shackleton also offer a bespoke service so you can discuss your own colour preferences with them - a refreshing thing to see from such a young brand.

Burton Menswear have collaborated with the Royal College of Art to produce a collection made from British fabrics that re-visit the brand's roots. This heritage-heavy range has been designed by one of RCA's students, Liam Hodges, who takes inspiration from the Minor's Strikes of the '80s. Through this we see a lot of thick wools and workwear influences as well as some slim-fit tailoring.

There's also footwear and accessories - some of which you can see pictured below - as well as statement knits and selvedge denim. Burton Menswear have taken this collaboration very seriously with the British fabrics, modern heritage vibe and a surprisingly vast offering. The Kardashian's at Dorothy Perkins can move aside - it's not about foreign imports here.

The Italian megabrand have announced that they'll be introducing the Versace Underwear and Beachwear collections for Spring/Summer 13. The collection launches in January so we don't mean to tease, we're just very keen to share this little preview. Plus it should have us all thinking about our resort vacations in the new year - time to try a cruise perhaps?

As you can see from the images above and below, Versace's signature Greek key motif emblazons the underwear waistband whilst the swimming trunks feature statement florals for something quite exotic. It's never anything quiet with this brand and precisely why they are a favourite - plus you also have the option to treat that special female someone with their women's offering [pictured left].

This new department - housed in 15 locations nationwide - features classic casuals such as printed tees, sweaters, jeans and chinos at really great prices. We paid a little visit to the Brixton location in London to check it out and see what we could find.

The collection features less mainstream brands such as premium denim label Trousers London to urban labels such as Beck & Hersey.
